Her line of research is focused on the study of proangiogenic and immunosuppressive signaling of advanced gastric cancer.
Tania Fleitas Kanonnikoff, is Medical Oncologist, trained at the University Hospital and Polytechnic La Fe. She presented her doctoral thesis focused on the determination of angiogenesis biomarkers in lung cancer at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
Subsequently, she joined Dr. Andrés Cervantes group at Hospital Clínico de Valencia focused on clinical care of patients diagnosed with digestive tumors. She continued her research career thanks to a a post-doctoral research contract Rio Hortega where she combined the clinic with translational research focused on gastric cancer tumor biology and the molecular caractherization of other solid tumors. The results of these projects have been published in high impact scientific journals. Tania Fleitas completed a one-year post-doctoral fellowship at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts thanks to a grant from the Spanish Association Against Cancer and the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology. After that stay, she rejoined Dr. Cervantes' research group, and continue working in the same line of research. Currently, she is becoming an emergent researcher from Incliva thanks to a Juan Rodés contract from Carlos III Institute. Her work combines the care of patients diagnosed with digestive tumors, and translational research.
Her line of research is focused on the study of proangiogenic and immunosuppressive signaling of advanced gastric cancer, as well as finding a diagnosis algorithm that allows transferring the molecular knowledge in gastric cancer to the clinical practice. In addition, she currently coordinates 2 international projects in collaboration with the Government of Paraguay, her country of origin. These projects aim to improve the health and quality of life of cancer patients in Paraguay, thanks to the implementation of a model of electronic medical records adapted to the care of oncological patients, and on the other hand the implementation of the determination of the mutational profile in solid tumors to guide the therapeutic strategy. Moreover, in the context of these projects, a series of webinars of continuous training are taught.
She has published scientific articles in high level scientific journals, and has also presented scientific papers in national and international congresses.
