Empar Lurbe i Ferrer

Dr. Lurbe graduated in Medicine from the University of Valencia and specializes in pediatrics and nephrology; she is an Associate Professor of pediatrics and is accredited to apply for a chair position. She is the head of the Pediatric Service at the University General Hospital Consortium (Consorci Hospital General Universitari) in Valencia and is the division head of the Centre of Networked Biomedical Research in Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBEROBN; Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y Nutrición) at the Carlos III Health Institute. She is also Editor-In-Chief at the Pediatric Annals journal, the official scientific journal of the Spanish Association of Pediatrics.

She is involved in national and international research projects in which her main clinical research focuses on studying cardiovascular risk factors in children and adolescents, including arterial hypertension, childhood obesity, and the effect of intrauterine life in the development of adult cardiometabolic disease. 

In recent years, she has actively participated in research aimed at using new technologies designed to improve the wellbeing of children, in cooperation with the Universidad Politécnica in Valencia at the Valencian Campus of Excellence. The work she has developed has given rise to results applicable in providing pediatric patient care, and has been published in numerous international and national articles.

She was a Research Fellow in nephrology and hypertension at the Northwestern University in Chicago, USA, coordinator of the European Hypertension Society’s first European guides on Arterial Hypertension in Children and Adolescents, and is a member of the Editorial Committee for international journals in pediatrics and hypertension.
