Vicente Bodí Peris

Dr. Bodí graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Valencia in 1990. He earned the Medical Cardiology Specialist title at the Hospital Clínico Universitario in Valencia in 1996 and graduated with cum laude honors from the Medical Department in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Valencia in 1998.

He is cardiologist in the Cardiology Department at the Hospital Clínico Universitario in Valencia and is accredited by the Hemodynamic and Interventional Cardiology Section of the Spanish Cardiology Society. He currently coordinates the Cardiology section at the Hospital Clínico Universitario in Valencia.

He is an Associate Professor at the University and is sufficiently accredited to apply for the entrance competitions to the permanent Professorial Body of the University. He teaches several subjects at the Medical Department in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Valencia and coordinates the Heart Imaging topic in the Bachelor’s degree in Medicine as well as the Medical Fundamentals of Biomedical Engineering topic in the Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. He has directed eight doctoral theses over the last several years.

As he is the Director of the Ischemic Cardiopathy Translational Research Group at the INCLIVA Health Research Institute, where his research activity mainly focuses on ischemic cardiopathy, for which he has received national and international awards. He has also been the Principal Investigator on several competitive research projects, including a current PROMETEO program project from the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian regional government) for outstanding research groups as well as on a Carlos III Health Institute Healthcare Research Fund (FIS; Fondo de investigación Sanitaria) project and on several ischemic cardiopathy clinical trials. He has over 200 indexed publications, has given more than 50 speeches as an invited guest speaker, and has participated in over 150 presentations at international conferences.

To develop and stabilize an experimental research-line based on the pig ischemia and infarction models which have been tested at the INCLIVA Central Medical Research Unit (UCIM; Unidad Central de Investigación de Medicina) in the University of Valencia Faculty of Medicine. This is a fully consolidated activity with more than 50 planned experiments which enables us to authentically translate experimental data into the clinic.
Some of the milestones in this model achieved so far:
•   Obtain a serological model based on the metabolomics of coronary ischemia allowing non-invasive diagnosis of ischemia in humans.
•    Analyze the repercussions of left-side coronary infarction in the right ventricle.
•   Collection of myocardial samples in order to better understand the role of the immune system in myocardial infarction.
•   Develop novel therapies for infarction such as gene therapy using the interleukin-10 gene or post ischemic conditioning.
