Federico V. Pallardó Calatayud

Dr. Pallardó studied Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Valencia where he obtained his degree with first class honors in 1985 and obtained his doctorate with cum laude honors a year later. 

After attending Oxford University in the United Kingdom and Harvard Medical School in the USA, where he was awarded a prestigious NATO fellowship, he returned to Spain in 1992. He is now a permanent Senior Professor at the University and is dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Odontology in the University of Valencia. He was also a visiting professor at the Chicago Medical School and later the Director of the INCLIVA Central Research Unit where he coordinated the basic research laboratories for more than ten years. He is the head of the Centre of Networked Biomedical Research in Rare Diseases (CIBERER; Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Enfermedades Raras) division.

His research focuses on the role of oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of rare diseases, with particular regard to epigenetic regulation and the role of histones and their post-translational modifications in different disease models. He has over 150 scientific publications, regularly contributes to prestigious international journals, and has managed 17 doctoral theses. His h-index is currently 40, and he has a total of more than 5,000 citations.

He has been the secretary of the Society for Free Radical Research Europe (SFRR Europe) and has received several national prizes such as the Salud 2000 Foundation award for his research in rare diseases or that of the international project Saving Lives at Birth from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 

He is an ambassador for several research institutes, membership assessor for the Valencian Foundation of Advanced Studies, and has been a judge for the Jaime I research awards several times. He is a research project evaluator for national bodies in several different European and Latin American countries.
