Dr. Carlos Hermenegildo Caudevilla
Principal Investigator
Research Group on Endothelial Cells (LINCE)
Presentation
He studied Medicine and Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Valencia, where he graduated in 1990, and obtained his doctorate with extraordinary honour three years later.
After a postdoctoral research training at the Instituto de Investigaciones Citológicas and in Canada, between 2000 and 2008 he worked as a researcher at the Carlos III Health Institute, first at the Hospital Clínico de Valencia and then at its Research Foundation. In 2008, he obtained an Assistant Professor position, and since 2012 is Full Professor in the Department of Physiology of the University of Valencia.
His research is focused on the changes that sex hormones, mainly estrogens, induce in the physiology and pathophysiology of the endothelium. Through a genetic and cell biology approach, he studies its repercussions on menopause, aging, hypertension and acute coronary syndrome. He has published more than 140 scientific papers, and more than 190 communications to national and international congresses, is a regular contributor to prestigious international journals, and has directed more than 25 doctoral theses and master’s thesis.
He has been principal investigator of 30 competitive research projects, obtaining continued competitive public funding for the last 25 years. He has been Coordinator of the Central Research Unit of the Faculty of Medicine (UCIM). He is currently Vice-Principal for Research of the University of Valencia, member of the R+D section of the CRUE, coordinator of REBIUN (Network of Spanish University Libraries) and president of RUVID (Network of Valencian Universities for the promotion of Research, Development and Innovation).
