Dr. Felip Vilella Mitjana
Principal Investigator
Research Group on Maternal Fetal Communication
Presentation
Dr. Vilella studied Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Navarra (2002) and two years later obtained a degree in Biochemistry. He obtained his PhD in Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lleida with the qualification of outstanding “cum laude” in 2006.
He made his first post-doctoral stay in the laboratory of Professor Aragón at the Clinical Science Centre of the Medical Research Council (MRC) in London (Marie Curie fellowship). In 2007 he was awarded a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (FECYT) for the training of Spanish PhDs abroad. During this period, he specialized in DNA repair mechanisms and cell cycle progression in eukaryotic cells, which gave her the opportunity to carry out a second stay in the laboratory of Professor Lako (a joint unit created between the University of Newcastle and the Príncipe Felipe Research Center in Valencia).
In 2011 he started his career as principal investigator at the IVI Foundation directed by Professor Simón. His main scientific interest focuses on the study of endometrial receptivity and the dialogue that exists between the mother and the embryo during implantation. In 2014 he obtained a Miguel Servet position and joined the INCLIVA Health Research Institute.
He has 42 scientific publications, in prestigious journals such as Nature Medicine, Nature Cell Biology, Development, Endocrine Reviews and Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism among others. He is a regular collaborator and reviewer of prestigious international journals. He has supervised 6 doctoral theses. He has participated in more than 16 international projects being principal investigator in 11 of them.
